Course / Program Title: Wood Oriented Furniture Design BA
I'm interested in finding alternative ways in which materials can be joined together. In this project I aimed to gain a deeper understanding of the material relationship between textile and wood. By utilising mechanical tension, I wanted to explore the fabric’s potential as a structural component of a furniture. I aimed to develop a structured way of working that encourages a practical approach.
My final year project playfully explores a method of joining fabric and wood using the keder cord in the context of furniture. This investigation is a continuation of the research that I carried out as part of a project in the previous semester and deals with the technical problems that arise in relation to tensioning. I propose a solution using threaded rods and explain the reasoning behind how this method of construction can be of benefit to the end user.
