For this project You walk, as it were, through a part of the fictional history of the world full of dreamed-up adventures and true stories. My work combines dream and science, myth and reality, history and current affairs. I intertwine all this from a strong personal perspective into large tapestries that I present like age old master paintings. The work is fairytale-like, colorful and is steeped in references. When Leda rejects a man in ancient Greece and it turns out to be Zeus, he transforms himself into an irresistibly beautiful swan and seduces and rapes Leda. In this new reality, my cat Poetskatoen is hunting, and will devour all the lurking swans that want to bait unsuspecting Leda’s into their trap. Ancient stories, modern pop culture, the underground artist and collective memory are crucial and conjoining subjects. I take part in the age old tradition of story (re)telling. Hearing a myth, remembering something, forgetting something, adding something and then passing it on. I am simultaneously an extreme activist and intentionally inattentive. One work is about my dead childhood pets floating through the water like Ophelia and dreaming of a world full of succulent bunnies and glitter, and the other work responds directly to the seemingly indestructible patriarchal society and how you struggle through it as a human being.
