About
I am an architecture graduate from the American University in Dubai. My interests are rooted in culture, heritage, materiality, and the relationship between architecture and its surroundings.
Julfar pottery is a significant part of Ras Al Khaimah's cultural identity. However, it is at risk of disappearing due to the lack of people who practice it, and the kiln remains are slowly deteriorating. Located in Ras Al Khaimah, Kilnscape aims to preserve both the physical remains of the craft and the knowledge associated with it, making sure it continues to be experienced and practiced rather than lost over time. The aim is to create a space where history, learning, and creating come together. The project will function as a museum to exhibit the artifacts and protect the kiln remains, while also operating as a pottery school where new generations can learn and experiment with the craft through hands-on experience. By combining exhibition, education, and practice, the project encourages an active engagement with pottery. In conclusion, the goal is to transform Julfar pottery into a living tradition in which the past and present coexist, allowing the craft to be preserved, shared, and carried forward into the future.
