About

Grant is a ceramic artist with a background in fashion who works with porcelain caught in a state of tension and transformation. He has been exploring the relationship between control and surrender. Grant treats the porcelain as cloth, by pressing it, slicing it into strips and draping it into layered forms that are both botanical and bodily. Each piece begins as a flat sheet of porcelain, that he shapes by hand into objects that unfurl and decay.

‘In the alchemical garden’ explores transformation as a continuous, unstable state where materials bloom, decay, and shift in continuous metamorphosis. Drawing on my background in fashion, I work with paper porcelain as if it were cloth, cutting, draping, and pressing it into forms that inhabit the in-between. I create objects that are neither fully formed nor collapsing, but suspended in tension. This material language reflects my fascination with hybridity, instability, and the dialogue between control and surrender in making. My work merges botanical, bodily, and mineral references into seductive yet unsettling objects. Each piece resists a fixed form, embodying the vulnerability, drama, and possibility that is inherent in transformation, and existing in a state where beginnings and endings are inseparable.
