I am a digital and interactive media artist who works with creative computing, performance, and game engines.
With a deep-set curiosity in exploring the ways we can challenge our understanding of our interactions with digital interfaces, my work aims to subvert the conventions of our relationships with them.
My recent degree show work combines and explores these ideas, with an emphasis on Ontology and Pervasive Game Theory. Here I explore the properties and our perceptions of objects, as the lines between what we consider 'real' and 'virtual' distort themselves.
Dream Eater is an immersive, playable interactive environment designed as a hyper-stimulating playground of found digital materials that exist in a ludic realm between tangibility and ephemerality. Created using Unity Engine, and an assemblage of ripped and re-created game assets, Gil explores the outcomes of treating digital interfaces as active collaborators, as opposed to passive tools. The game harkens to nostalgic imagery, as Gil’s childhood experiences act as a backdrop to explore the border between Ontology, Semiology, and Pervasive Game Theory. As the audience leaps and runs through the surreal virtual landscape, a feedback loop emerges, wherein the ontology of the ‘Game World’ is both shaped by and shapes the ongoing dialogue between game elements and the players who engage with them.
