Francesca Gagni was born in Italy and emigrated to the UK at the
age of 23. Francesca is a craft based fine artist and printmaker. Her practice
is multidisciplinary, including drawing and digital drawing, photography and
digital manipulation, paper making, printmaking and embossing. Francesca has a
sustainable approach to the outsourcing of art materials, which includes
recycling paper. and ink making using local and sustainable resources. Her
sustainable working methods define her current art practice; the material and
experimentation are intertwined, guiding the idea processes. Francesca explores
concepts and ideas in relation to time, space and place. She studied Fine Art
at Anglia Ruskin University and graduated in 2023.
The work evolves around the synthesis of manmade structures succumbing to transformation by entropic action. The paper artifacts manifest dualities of degradation and regeneration, formal arrangement, and de-construction, within an ambiguous temporal dimension. Wabi Sabi principles are intrinsic in my work, which explore concepts of time and transience, the cosmic order revealing in the metamorphosis of the materials, and in the natural variables. Entropy acts as a counterfoil to nature, transcending time towards the path of a subjective truth.
