Emma is a contemporary jewellery and object designer whose work explores the relationship between advocacy, functionality, and adornment. Inspired by personal experiences with severe nut allergies, her practice reimagines medical accessories and allergy-related objects as expressive, emotionally resonant pieces rather than purely clinical tools.
Combining historical jewellery references with contemporary making techniques, Emma’s work balances sculptural organic forms with functional design. Craftsmanship and experimentation play a central role within her process. Working across CAD, CNC machining, carving, soldering, and hand-finishing, Emma develops technically ambitious pieces that merge wearable design with concealed functions, including hidden compartments, reversible medical IDs, and integrated advocacy elements. Her practice is characterised by a balance between bold statement objects and quieter, more subtle forms of symbolism, aiming to humanise medical objects and encourage more open conversations around severe allergies and accessibility through contemporary jewellery. This project reimagines medical accessories and allergy-related objects through contemporary jewellery and wearable design. Inspired by severe nut allergies, the work explores how medical objects can become expressive, and emotionally resonant rather than purely clinical. Using sculptural nut forms, silversmithing, plating, cubic zirconias, and hidden functional elements, the collection transforms medical IDs and allergy-related objects into pieces that encourage advocacy and conversation. Throughout the collection, the nut is reclaimed as a symbol of ownership, protection, and identity.
