My name is Dan and I am a printed textile designer, who just graduated from the National College of Art and Design in Dublin, Ireland with a degree in Printed Textiles. My practice is inspired by heritage, cultural memory and the beauty found within derelict spaces. I work with natural and enduring materials, particularly leathers, wools and linens combining traditional craftsmanship with experimental textile techniques to explore texture, colour and surface.
My degree collection, Renewal in Ruin, explores the hidden histories held within deteriorating buildings and urban environments, challenging the idea of decay as simply loss. Through my work, I aim to create textiles that carry a sense of history while continuing to evolve and age beautifully over time.
Renewal in Ruin explores the heritage and cultural memory held within derelict sites and buildings. The collection challenges the idea of deterioration as loss, instead viewing decay as a process that reveals hidden histories through texture and colour. Blending history with modernity, the collection uses textiles to translate the evolving conversation between people and their built environment. Natural, enduring materials such as goatskin leather and linen are combined with traditional, handcrafted techniques to create immersive textile surfaces. Designed to evolve over time, the textiles explore aging, memory and preservation, developing alongside the body and reflecting the natural ageing of our surroundings.
