Okamurae is an environmental and economic proposal that addresses the problems caused by the invasive Asian algae Rugulopteryx okamurae in the Mediterranean Sea. This species has progressively invaded our coasts, generating social, cultural, ecological, and economic issues that directly affect biodiversity, tourism, and the fishing sector. This initiative proposes transforming the algae into a useful biomaterial through its collection and study, resulting in a collection composed of three fabrics. The two main fabrics are classified as non-woven materials, where the biomaterial itself has been shaped into its final form. Additionally, an accessory has been created using a biomaterial filament with additive manufacturing. This innovative fabric design promotes a circular economy, sustainability, water purification, and the restoration of affected marine ecosystems (SDGs).
