About
Almog Gressel is an animator and director with a background in live action filmmaking and motion design. He has an MA in Animation from the Royal College of Art, working primarily in a 2d frame by frame approach that lends a realistic look to his animation. His practice focuses on externalizing the internal reality of his characters into the psychological landscapes that they inhabit, exploring themes of isolation and group mentality.
A 2D animated short film, following twin siblings during a playful mock battle on the outskirts of town. While the girl pretends to hunt her brother as a rat, they encounter Wōtan: a real ratcatcher set on that very same mission. As he begins teaching the kids how to hunt, his presence forces them to face the grim truth behind the “game” they imitate. Wotan is dark fairy-tale about how the inheritance of violence & ideology cements the loss of future generations. Inspierd by research into the reality behind the 'Pied Piper of Hamlin' myth, it sheds light on the political reality for children drafted into a cause they do not understand.
