I am a product design engineer who recently graduated from Brunel University London. My fervent passion for design engineering stems from the desire to create innovative products and services that have a long-lasting positive impact on people's lives. I find that there is nothing more rewarding than developing a product from initial ideation to a final refined concept, and observing how it solves a problem I set out to solve.
VisionAI is an assistive device for visually impaired individuals that utilises the latest advancements in computer vision technology to identify and locate potential hazards in an urban environment. The device is specifically designed to be used at road intersections, where it can inform the user of oncoming traffic. The device employs stereo cameras, utilising binocular principles and AI algorithms to identify the object, its location relative to the user and its speed. These cameras are attached to a standard white cane and to activate the device, the user points the cameras towards the area of interest and presses the button on the handle. Visual information is acquired and then processed in a pack worn on the arm. The user then receives the relevant information through either the haptic motor in the handle or their headphones. The device aims to improve the safety and confidence of visually impaired people commuting through urban environments.
