About

Gaining industry experience working for Walter Van Beirendonck, SHOWstudio and fellow alumnus, Gareth Pugh. Alex was the first recipient of the Self-Portrait scholarship and was selected to show during London Fashion Week – for Autumn/Winter ’20, his collection utilised dead stock wool for tailoring and recycled stretch fabrics, and was highlighted by Hamish Bowles, featuring in the Vogue.com article ‘Editors on Their Favourite Moments From The Fall 2020 Shows.’ Alex has exhibited work chosen by NIKE and Samuel Ross of A-COLD-WALL*, using eco-leather and recycled rubber, at the sustainable event Copenhagen Fashion Summit in 2019, and has worked in collaboration with iconic footwear brand BIRKENSTOCK on boot designs being sold globally in February 2021. Born in South London, a high-energy fusion of cultural influences inspire Alex’s exploration of concepts surrounding ‘Britishness’ and ‘masculine’ identities. Striking a balance between technical innovation and conceptual expression, Alex playfully subverts and manipulates traditional menswear tailoring and sportswear, proposing a sleek new identity for men with an emphasis on everyday elegance with a twist.

‘The Boredroom’ is a satirical, dystopian exploration of concepts surrounding ‘Britishness’ and ‘masculine’ identities - encouraging men to express playfulness and absurdity in times of fear and uncertainty. With a playful design language that includes pattern cutting around objects, the corporate ‘9-5’ suit is dissected to reveal unexpected details within the garments and propose a new expressive and inclusive vision of masculine identity. “the student who incorporated chairs into his final collection—and had Vogue’s Hamish Bowles picking out his work as one of his most enjoyed delights of the 2020 shows.” - Sarah Mower, Vogue US
