My name is Alexia Popa, and I am a textile-focused fashion designer with a background in visual arts. Before studying fashion at the Amsterdam Fashion Institute, I explored painting, sculpture, drawing, and printmaking—disciplines that continue to shape my sensitivity to texture, form, and emotional storytelling.
Textiles have always captivated me—not just as materials, but as vessels for memory and identity. Knitting, in particular, became central to my design voice, offering full control to craft fabric from the ground up and translate intangible feelings into tangible surfaces.
I’m also drawn to material innovation, experimenting with techniques like casting lace in silicone to explore the expressive potential of fabric. For me, the textile always comes first—it guides concept, silhouette, and emotional resonance.
In an era where algorithms, globalization, and fast-paced digital culture flatten individuality, I turn to cultural memory as a way to preserve identity. Memory anchors us to shared histories, emotions, and traditions, offering resistance to cultural homogenization. My collection, Faded Reveries, asks: can fashion be more than clothing—can it be a vessel for memory and reconnection? Drawing from nostalgic recollections of Romanian homes—lace curtains, glass figurines, worn blankets—I create wearable expressions of memory.. While rooted in my heritage, the collection speaks to the universal power of memory, inviting the wearer to slow down, honor heritage, and find depth beyond fast fashion.
