My work focuses on embroidery, hand embellishment and surface manipulation. I use my craft and specialism to create high detail and quality garments, these skills were gained from my placement year at Suzie Turner couture. Sustainability is at the heart of all my collections, I always aim to use as many deadstock materials as possible and source as much as I can locally.My final graduate collection looks at the Destruction of local land by new building developments is harming the British countryside irrevocably. We are at the point of no return. Rural Britain being lost forever. The challenges facing my local area means we must redraw our way of life. Taking inspiration from the historic folk law of my village, such as fairy rings, and clashing it with the workwear of the builders changing the face of the countryside and using locally sourced and deadstock fabrics, I draw on traditional techniques such as smocking and forms of knitting to create high quality garments that last. We must keep our heritage alive.The project has allowed me to explore the history of my village and celebrate the areas natural beauty which is being overlooked by builders. Being able to use local fabrics which have been gifted by residents of my village has made the connection to my project even more personal.
