About
Im curious about local materials, handicrafts skills and practices. As craft can be seen also as foundation of fashion design, my work explores craft, DIY fashion systems and their relationship to contemporary fashion. My work is currently focused on locality, learning new skills and techniques and reimagining traditional handicrafts with the idea of more accessible fashion design.
I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the Swedish School of Textiles, where I developed my practice in textile and fashion design through material-based research and experimentation.
My practice is material-oriented, and I am particularly drawn to natural fibres and materials.
I value craftsmanship and am committed to preserving and learning traditional, sustainable methods of making and repairing products. I believe these practices are essential to building a more responsible and sustainable future for fashion.
Russian word мир (mir) has two primary meanings: ”peace” and ”world” (or universe). Historically, it also meant a peasant village community or society. Handicrafts are key characteristic of humanity. Ulitsa Mira aimed to place felting, knitting and weaving at the centre of the design process as a way of challenging the exclusivity and existing processes of fashion making. The project explored the possibilities to make a fashion collection by handcraft practises considering every step of the material and process, from raw fibre to finished garment. Through hands-on practices, project explored craft, its nature and theoretical aspects. Fabrics were woven in collaboration with TaTe-Team in Hämeenlinna, Finland. Finnish flax was sponsored by Linen Stories and wool was sponsored by Avelsås Ull & Inredning.
