Kao is a product and furniture designer whose practice is grounded in hands-on experimentation. He considers material properties and their inherent beauty as fundamental to how elements are structured and joined, extending their potential to serve everyday functions while expressing their natural character.
Materials and fabrication processes guide how elements meet and respond within context. Form emerges gradually from these relationships, articulated through subtle and considered details.
Tilt Task Chair explores a simplified tilting mechanism that supports changing postures during home office work. The chair responds to users leaning into their work, allowing smooth transitions between neutral and forward-leaning postures. The design emphasizes the legibility of the overall structure, allowing the chair's movement and replaceable joint system to communicate how they work through their form. Interchangeable joints also allow users to personalize the chair's flexibility and color.
