About
I am a fashion designer who enjoys creating little characters and stories through my
garments. Rather than specializing in a single technique, I experiment to discover the
textures and forms that best convey the intended message.
I like working with small elements found in my surroundings. I am interested in reinterpreting
existing objects from my own perspective; this approach honors and connects with the past
while simultaneously inspiring the imagination to conjure new stories. Consequently, themes
uch as memory, the worn, and the everyday recur throughout my creative explorations.
The project presented here titled Three Thousand Echoes for a Melody comprises a fashion
collection inspired by curious found objects that carry anonymous histories. These objects
have led me to explore various techniques: waxing, to encapsulate movement within the
garment; unraveling threads, to evoke an aesthetic of wear and tear; and burying garments
in the ground to observe the effects of the passage of time.
There is always a sense of helplessness in the moment you lose an object of great sentimental value. You picture it, motionless and alone, lying on a street or tucked into some crevice, waiting to be spotted. You know it is out there somewhere, though not exactly where. Unexpectedly parting with such an object is unpleasant, yet I find comfort in the thought that it might be found by someone else, a new owner, and thus gain the chance to begin a new life and go on gathering stories. These little everyday objects that have been forgotten, lost, or discarded lie at the heart of this project. Like people, they hold memories and age; that's why the wear, stains, deformities, and breaks they bear are traces of lives inscribed upon their surfaces which allow us not only to recall the past but also to imagine endless new stories.
