About

I make jewellery, both commercially and conceptually. I use 3D software such as Daz and Rhinoceros to generate most of my forms. It is by chance that my introduction to this way of working back in 2020, (as a response to lack of workshop access from the pandemic) coincided with the release “castable” resins and affordable resin 3D printers. Both of which dramatically reducing the time and cost to generate intricate and complex metal forms. These innovations became the core of my practice but not without teething issues. As an early adopter of this process, I have developed a personal attachment to it and will continue to champion this way of working throughout my career. I finish my pieces at the bench, I think my knowledge in both the digital and physical production of jewellery is the reason for my recent successes. This year I have graduated from BA Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins with a First Class Honours. I was awarded The Swarovski Foundation Scholarship, The Brian Wood Memorial Medal for my ring, “Sorry, Tomasz”, and my collection was awarded The Theo Fennell Award First Place.

The project is as a response to the growing influence of computer-aided-design within contemporary jewellery manufacture. It is also a self-analysis of my place within the industry. I am graduating from CSM as a contemporary designer and maker rather than a specialist craftsman. My collection attempts to unpack the role of designer and craftsman and the level at which their individual skills are revered. I conducted interviews with a range of different craftsmen around Hatton Garden to give me insight into their practice and to find out their attitudes towards computer-aided-design; their statements were the foundation for my design process.
