About
Hi, I’m Katie, a Fashion Design graduate from UCA Rochester who has a passion for playful, colourful, sustainable fashion. Using my experience and skills to create garments that release a dopamine boost, how it makes me feel when I design something is how I want someone to feel when they are wearing it. Confident, fresh and bold.
The inspiration for my final collection is the movement of light. Whilst researching Isaac Newton's corpuscular theory of light this inspired me and became my focus. Having long held photography as a personal interest I combined my two loves, fashion and photography and used my own images of light movement within my designs to develop ideas that captured a balance of fun, merging bold and sporty with the essence of softness and movement. With sustainability being a crucial global issue and one for us all to address, I found weaving a positive method to showcase this fully in my collection. The fabrics to create my woven jumper and bags came from a combination of sources including remnants from my own work, charity shop clothes, off cuts, a Burberry donation and contributions of unwanted fabric from friends and family. With fabric contributions to this piece from various sources I also wanted to influence others to embrace sustainability and make it a natural choice for all.
