About
My name is Yurou Liu. I graduated from the Glasgow School of Art with a degree in interior design. During my four years of study, I developed a strong interest in urban regeneration and the adaptive reuse of buildings, as well as a deeper understanding of these subjects. After graduation, I decided to continue my postgraduate studies in the Architecture and Historic Urban Environments MA programme at UCL, where I hope to further explore these related fields. At the same time, I remain passionate about interior design. In my daily life, I enjoy visiting museums and learning about the history and culture of different places.
Springburn Bird Conservation Centre
UK bird populations continue to decline, while public awareness remains limited. This project transforms the vacant Category A-listed Springburn Winter Gardens in Glasgow into a multifunctional Bird Conservation Centre. It combines research, rescue, rehabilitation, monitoring and public education within an ecologically active urban park. The adaptive reuse strategy respects the historic structure while introducing community programmes that create long-term ecological and social value. Designed for both people and birds, the centre separates quiet habitats from public learning areas through layered circulation and clear boundaries, reducing disturbance while supporting safe, accessible and engaging urban coexistence for local communities and wildlife alike.
