About
My name is Maude Fortunato, I grew up in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and often found myself in basements and dingy bars not to party but to create the atmosphere. As a young jazz saxophonist in those spaces, usually not taken seriously until I started to play, my outfit was my resume. Curating a look for the gig became my second job and started my love affair with fashion. I needed to take up more space to compensate for being the smallest and youngest in the room; I was denim clad in the baggiest oversized clothes I could find at the thrift store. These roots influence my style and authentic signature as a designer. I love storytelling through my work and find endless inspiration in denim-wear and work-wear.
"Sorry, Mom" is a familiar phrase to queer youth, but this collection is unapologetically queer. Inspired by the AIDS epidemic in the late 80s, early 90s, “Sorry, Mom!” follows the life and reality of far too many people. This emotional collection gives viewers an honest glimpse into life during the AIDS epidemic. This collection is sponsored by Cone Mills and Japan Blue Denim.
