ZETING XU is a London-based fashion designer with a strong focus on menswear pattern cutting, garment construction, and three-dimensional form development. His practice integrates research-driven thinking with hands-on making, translating cross-disciplinary references into precise structural outcomes. Drawing on a diverse academic background, he develops design processes that bridge art history, graphic design, material experimentation, and pattern-cutting logic. With a mature and methodical approach, Xu builds a distinctive pathway where construction becomes the primary language of authorship and innovation.
This collection, SERIF, investigates how serif typographic morphology can be translated into menswear through pattern-cutting. By treating patterns as typographic strokes, the cuts examine how curvature and terminal points of serif shape silhouette on the male body. While the pattern-cutting is conceived as a typographic glyph, paper is employed as the material medium of construction. The selection of paper-like textiles balances the work between material experimentation and commercial feasibility. Pine soot ink on washable paper recalls the matte, fibrous tactility of Gambiered Cantonese Silk, establishing a dialogue in which ink and paper function as interdependent agents of form and surface. The result is a structural language in which garment construction operates as a mode of typographic inscription.
