About
Joelle is a Swedish artist working across collectible design and sculptural art, with a practice that unfolds through material, esoteric symbolism, and the human gaze. Drawing on ancient symbolism, alchemy, and esoteric thought, her work explores the tension between an object’s physical presence and the quieter resonance it evokes within. She is drawn to objects that carry a sense of mystery, where material, gesture, and intention are felt as much as seen.
The work emerges from a fascination with ancient Egyptian symbolism and esoteric thought, with the Ouroboros as a central motif—the serpent consuming its own tail. It represents a cycle in which beginning and end converge, evoking dissolution, transformation and cosmic unity. The object unfolds as an ottoman, combining ivory linen with a glossy black stoneware inlay. Through clay, formed from earth and transformed through fire, the symbol is materialised conceptually and physically. A spiral evokes cycles of continuity, unfolding the ottoman’s esoteric layers. Its material duality resonates with the symbolism, extending the concept throughout the object.
