About

Leonor Plantenga is a Dutch-Brazilian director, screenwriter, and installation artist based in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. In Film making she enjoys writing and directing small, realistic scripts, often told from a female perspective. She also loves experimenting with storytelling forms. She encourages actors to improvise, aiming to make the performance more realistic. She enjoys working with both professional actors and non-actors. So far, she primarily creates coming-of-age films. On set, she embraces unexpected changes and maintains flexibility in her process. She views mistakes in acting as unwritten gifts. Social and political themes play a significant role in her work. Injustice is something that makes her angry. She sees these feelings of anger as a powerful source of energy for creation. With her Dutch-Brazilian background, Leonor hovers somewhere between two cultures and two languages—a perspective she considers an enrichment and a strength. https://leonorplantenga.com/

What is it like to never feel completely at home? To grow up between two cultures? These questions shape the daily struggles for Seventeen-year-old Dutch-Dominican Felicia from Numansdorp. One day, after yet another ambiguous remark from her friends, Felicia has enough. In an impulsive decision, she leaves her old village behind and takes a bus to Rotterdam. Here she joins a new group of friends, hoping to find a better sense of belonging. But the experience leaves her with more inner turmoil, ultimately leading her to make a radical decision.
