About
Shannon Stafford-Adatia is a mixed media artist and designer fascinated by the art of stitch and artisanry within a modern society suffused with diverse and ever-changing trends.
As a Mixed Media designer my approach is trend led and contemporary. My Final Major Project, sponsored by Madeira Threads UK, explores Italy’s rich heritage of leather and lace craftsmanship, inspired by eighteenth-century Baroque and Rococo architecture and gardens. These set the scene for this Spring/Summer collection, inspiring both the aesthetic direction in addition to the project’s refined colour palette. I have aimed to intertwine the romance from Torquato Tasso’s evocative love poem “Non Sono in Queste Rive” with the visual research of the botanical flourishing gardens and villas that hug the coast line of the Mediterranean. The main focus is on drawn image and mark making techniques translated onto fabric through various mixed media approaches. With this, I have intended to blend hand and machine embroidery processes together to create contemporary fashion for the luxury market.
