I'm Faria, a graduate of Fashion at Edinburgh College of Art. My practice began with painting. After four years of systematic oil painting training, I moved into fashion. What those years built in me was less a set of techniques than a way of seeing: how to work with an unfinished surface on canvas, how to let a brushstroke carry time within it. That training still forms the underlying grammar of how I look at the world and construct my work.My practice moves between fine art and fashion without hierarchy. In my graduate collection, Life is Elsewhere, I tried to translate the "process" of painting directly into the structure of garments: hand painted acrylic, cracked and weathered leather, hand shaped textured fabric, digital print, and original oil paintings transformed into the fabric itself. Behind these methods lies one persistent question: does the moment a painting is finished and the moment a garment is finished point toward the same kind of unfinishedness?For me, painting and fashion have never been two identities pulling against each other. They are the same act of self portraiture, extended across different mediums.Looking ahead, I want to work in an environment that genuinely treats art, craft and fashion as one, while continuing to exhibit as an independent artist, exploring garments as their own art form. These two paths have never been in conflict for me. One keeps deepening my understanding of craft and material, the other keeps me asking the question that has carried me through this whole body of work: what fashion can become when it's allowed to breathe like art.
