Kitsch with its mass-produced, overly decorated nature. Camp and its ability to address societal issues through exaggeration, humor and parody. Both are confronted with craft, an overly traditional and regulated practice. Everyday pieces of clothing, the ways we are used to wearing them, and the conventions they carry are left behind. Otherwise hidden body parts are revealed, practicality is no longer the norm. The pieces of clothing restrict movement while they slide off the body – a metaphor for what conventions do to us and a way of breaking out of them. Crafting techniques are opened to new ways of making, thinking, and doing. Besides theoretical interpretations, there is also a personal dimension to this work. Craft has always been interconnected with home, belonging and coziness. Therefore, it only seemed logical to use handcrafted pieces as a way of expressing the subconscious urge to find shelter in a world that is no longer as it once was. This collection attempts to take the feeling of home quite literally everywhere you go.
