Lydiah Holder is a menswear designer passionate about colour and print. Her designs often reflect her heritage, emphasising the significance of Black culture and history, which are also her primary research interests. Lydiah has gained valuable experience interning at brands like Nicholas Daley, Christopher Kane and Labrum London. Her work combines traditional elements with contemporary styles, aiming to tell stories through fashion. Lydiah believes in using her platform to highlight cultural narratives and inspire others. She enjoys exploring new artistic techniques and connecting with her community in her free time.
Lydiah’s collection, "Honouring Melrose," seamlessly blends the aesthetic of her late grandmother Melrose's interior design with contemporary fashion silhouettes. This collection is a heartfelt tribute, drawing deeply from her family heritage and the stylistic evolution witnessed in her community during the Windrush era. The inspiration captures the transition of Caribbean arrivals from formal to casual attire during the 1950s to 1970s. This fusion creates a unique and compelling narrative within her work, showcasing how traditional elements can be thoughtfully reimagined in modern fashion. Each piece is designed meticulously, reflecting the textures and feelings associated with her grandmother’s beloved home. The collection features luxurious fabrics such as velvet, wool, faux suede, and satin, chosen to evoke the home's warmth and comfort while igniting a sense of nostalgia and longing for those familiar, cherished spaces. "Honouring Melrose" utilises a striking colour palette inspired by Lydiah's Caribbean heritage. Rich hues of camel, teal, plum, and purple are thoughtfully selected to celebrate the vibrant and resilient spirit of the Caribbean. These colours highlight the aesthetic appeal of the garments and pay homage to the cultural significance and enduring impact of Caribbean traditions on British fashion.
