Hi Everyone!My name is Nick, and I am an Industrial Designer from Melbourne, Australia!I am deeply passionate about the entire design process, from initial sketches and concept development through to CAD modelling, prototyping and manufacturing. I enjoy understanding how an idea can evolve from a simple sketch into a considered, functional and manufacturable product, and I am particularly drawn to the hands-on relationship between digital design and physical making.During my Honours year at Swinburne University, I challenged myself through a modular footwear project that explored how one product could adapt to different needs and environments. The project pushed me beyond traditional product design and allowed me to develop my skills across research, user-centred design, soft-goods construction, 3D modelling, prototyping and material exploration.I see Industrial Design as an opportunity to combine creativity, technical problem-solving and practical making. I am always looking to challenge myself, learn new processes and develop products that are not only visually considered, but purposeful, adaptable and achievable in the real world.
Flexi's design problem originally felt simple, ideate and develop a modular footwear concept, that can become a sustainable and inexpensive option in the market. Throughout the design process. The project had to demonstrate the progression from initial ideation and material exploration, through to prototyping, CAD, 3D printing, refinement and final visualisation. The project focused on developing a functional and aesthetically considered footwear system, while addressing challenges surrounding the fit, Velcro mechanics, materials and manufacturing. Through repeated testing, failures and industry feedback, the design was progressively refined into a final prototype and revised CAD concepts. Overall, the project demonstrates a hands-on, iterative design process and the development of practical skills in footwear design, soft goods, CAD and prototyping.
