About
Anais Miller is an aspiring designer specialising in knitted textiles, who graduated with a First Class BA (Hons) in Textile Design for Fashion and Interiors. Being a tactile person who is inspired by structure, knit allows Anais to express her concepts through engineering and formations of knitted fabrics. Experimenting with unusual yarns and unexpected materials, she aims to change how knit structures behave. Drawn to bold colour and interesting textures, she hopes to bring fun and playful knitted structures with the use of innovative technical yarns and materials to the industry.
Using inspiration from family trips to the harbour town of Amble in Northumberland, I utilised memories and imagery to explore nautical themes and industrial fishing to inform my Final Major Project as part of my degree. By taking structural inspiration from lobster pots, textural inspiration from fishing nets and technique inspiration from sailing knots, my aim was to capture the rugged aesthetic of maritime industry in a contemporary and playful interpretation. The colour palette captures the fluorescent oranges, bright greens and bold blues seen in the nets, boats, and buoys within my inspiration. I intended to contrast delicate mixed media knitted fabrics with chunky design elements to create a visual interest of varied structures.
