This body of work that I created in 2024 is concerned with the embodiment of power and uses ceramic pinhole cameras with the intention of (re)turning the gaze inwards in an effort to administer urgent therapy to the self. I created a series of 10 ceramic sculptures that doubled as pinhole cameras and 10 images that were taken by their corresponding camera. The pieces work together and contrast the view of the imagined self with the reality of its apparent and true form. The sculptures (cameras) and images were made to be viewed together but can also be viewed for their beauty separately. My process is one of hand building using coiling to create the sculptures that I have contrasted in the types of clay used, these being Porcelain and Charcoal clay giving them their opposing colourings. Then comes the daunting and long process of capturing the images from their mirrored sculptural forms using the method of experimental pinhole photography, which exposes onto photographic paper that sits inside the sculptures (cameras).
