During London’s Frieze week 2021, Osman is also exhibiting in Thrope Stravi x Gallery no. 32: The Factory Project alongside other mid-career artists and curators. Working primarily with Plaster, Clay and Latex, Osman creates large-scale installations that explore Culture, Mental Health and Politics. Osman discusses subjects that are often disregarded by societies in the West, to evoke emotion from the viewer. She frequently invites viewers into dire spaces to acknowledge the injustices of the calamities in the East, which have been neglected/unfairly represented by the media. Osman also explores her personal struggles using psychoanalysis techniques. Using intense processes and physical touch Osman releases tension, of the mind and body, which enables the viewer to directly observe her emotions within the artwork.

Degree Show 2021: far from home

Far from Home iii was inspired by the devastation caused by “war” on Eastern architecture, particularly representing the obliterated Gaza strip in Palestine. Osman intended to re-create a small fragment of the crisis to allow the viewers to experience the same level of vulnerability, fear and sadness as the displaced civilians. Osman also invited the viewers into the dire space to acknowledge the injustices of the current calamity in Palestine, which has often been unfairly presented by the media. The rubble that surrounds the towers acts as a barrier - a symbol of division and separation of the oppressed. The construction process is a significant part of Osman’s practice, enabling the viewer to observe her emotions in the artwork. In Far from Home iii, Osman used bodily movement and intense processes to release tension, of the mind and body, and to ground herself in the present. For Instance, she rapidly kneaded, sculpted and aggressively chiselled the Clay, hence enabling the viewer to identify grief through the visible destruction. Using malleable but also rigid Plaster meant that Osman could produce gaping holes and broken walls to resemble the current fragile state of Palestine. Healthy Adult: I Trust Myself is a scripted Psychoanalysis prepared for when the mind is in an anxious state. There are two narrators: an anxious person who questions their catastrophic thoughts and a wiser person who grounds them – symbolising the importance of self-therapy.
