About

My final major project 'Creator, Destroyer' explores the themes of change and the passage of time through the interactions of fibre and metal. Medieval armour and chainmail are main sources of visual research utilised in this project. I aimed to make delicate knitted samples that resemble the metal used.A natural dyeing process using oak galls is used alongside rust printing to produce a colour pallet of greys, browns and oranges as well as unpredictable and unique patterns on fabric. The damage to the metal being the means to create new designs. The contrast of the delicate fabrics and yarns with the 'damage' of the rust demonstrating beauty in destruction, the inevitability of decay and demise and the creation of new from old.
