Dilan is a German-Turkish architectural designer currently based in London. Prior to the RCA, she studied at the Technical University in Berlin, where she obtained her undergraduate degree in Architecture. Dilan's designs reflect a blend of functionality, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal, creating spaces that inspire and make minimal impact on the existing. She approaches each project with a meticulous eye for detail. Dilan recognises the importance of consciously working with resources and aims to create awareness of socially and economically relevant issues in today’s society by implementing them in her designs.
In the fast-paced retail industry, sustainability often takes a backseat to competitiveness and aesthetic appeal, leading to wasteful redesigns every five years. E-commerce exacerbates the problem, generating a staggering 4.8 times more waste. Brick by Brick, a retail and workshop space, offers hope by transforming retail waste into impulses for change by tackling the pressing issue of e-commerce cardboard waste and upcycling it into versatile pulp bricks. Repurposing plastic air cushion void fill as an eco-friendly lamp and upcycling cardboard waste demonstrates the power of creativity for sustainable inner spatial structures. Unlike traditional retail interiors that generate substantial waste, Brick by Brick showcases a novel approach to sustainable design. The bricks' remarkable variety allows for visually captivating retail spaces that evolve without harming the environment. By transforming waste into opportunity, it paves the way for a greener future, inspiring businesses and consumers to build a better world, brick by brick.
