This project positions itself as a quiet form of activism in creating ”something out of nothing”, challenging the accelerating pace of the fashion industry by advocating for slowness, material intimacy, and the value of making by hand. The exploration phase insists on the relevance of tactile processes by applying the philosophies of –knowing through making– and using time as a design component. The working process of this project challenges conventional notions of luxury by using craft as a critical tool in focusing on time-consuming techniques to elevate a low-valued material, like pistachio shells, into a type of ”low-key luxury” wearables. Each shell has undergone a series of manual processes, such as drilling, various coloring treatments, and being joined using yarns and wires.
