About
Nina's universe is playful and often humourous, but with a meaningful undertow. With her use of objects and media, she shows sensibilities and enstrangement of todays technological society, but from a small, intimate point of view. Softly pushing you into awareness of how unusual, but also beautiful our world is.
The title, A Home with 100 Windows Open, refers to all the windows opened in your browser. Through the light of a laptop screen, Intel Iris Plus Graphics 655 1536 MB, the space is a personification of my website, ninini.in. The multiple works in the room sometimes link to eachother like web pages (some are dead-ends) but the room becomes a jumpy yet logical 'whole' and 'hole' in once. This space shows all my current pieces, bits and bytes. The overall focus lies on the multiple relations between a User and a Device, from symbiotic to antagonistic. Shifting possessive users into more compassion and symbiotic distance to their phones and laptops. Nina calls upon forms of empathy and compassion towards these non-human inorganic devices, by characterising them. Influenced by the directionless, multi-pathed, fragmented nature of the internet, her works focus on a non-linear view. Through copy, pasting, cutting and hyperlinking, she creates her own web. Her web is like the web of a spider her travelling home, always right there in her pocket.
