Ruichen Xu is a product designer from Northern China. Obsessed with exploring material narratives and spatial relationships, Ruichen combines traditional craftsmanship with innovative manufacturing techniques to create objects that resonate with emotion.
Ruichen's graduation work,"轴" (Axisymmetric), challenges conventional furniture assembly methods. This work proposes a revolutionary assembly solution aimed at resolving the tension between flat-pack furniture transportation and user assembly experience. By applying low-temperature thermoplastic materials in the furniture design, it ingeniously combines novel techniques leveraging material properties with digital manufacturing technology. Furniture produced this way achieves flat-pack shipping while simultaneously delivering an experience where users feel. "I'm not assembling furniture, I'm creating it. "
