I am a contemporary designer specialising in printed textiles and hand embroidery. My design work is shaped by my love of storytelling and bold and intricate pattern and colour.
This project seeks to explore the effect of migration on print design, fashion, and our society, through a collection of designs for luxury womenswear, whilst also being a celebration of diversity. I have found both fashion and migration to be great catalysts of change and that, over time, the diversity that the movement of people brings has helped form our society into who we are, both individually and across nations. It is a fact that migration not only enriches design but our day-to-day life. I observed my grandmother’s migration from Belize to the UK in 1960 as an example of this. I used my interviews with her to learn about her experience of diverse cultural references working together to enrich the clothing and fashion.
