Macarena Yagüe is a young fashion designer who will soon graduate from Regents University. Born in the cosmopolitan Marbella in the south of Spain, moved to British Gibraltar at the age of twelve, her spirit of commitment and endurance helped her adapt to education in a second language and a different educational system. She began going to sewing and pattern-making lessons after school at the age of sixteen, determined to become a fashion designer. For two consecutive years, she attended fashion design summer courses for teenagers in London, one in LCF and the other in Central Saint Martins. Her dedication led her to spend the last two summer holidays working on personal design projects. In 2022 she presented her first fashion design collection in a regional competition achieving second place. In the summer of 2023, she participated in three different fashion shows culminating in Malaga Larios Fashion Week where her design ‘Cuore’ made an impact. She recently won the Hoff sneakers design competition and her design will be produced and sold in their flagship shop in Regent Street in September.
Revelation Of The Hidden is based on my personal process of introspection and emotional growth. The aesthetic is developed from my childhood memories of traditional Andalusian riding wear, Andalusian culture and traditions like the Virgin of El Rocio and its famous pilgrimage together with my passion for horses. These aspects of my cultural heritage are blended with personal memories and the emotions attached. In a way, the collection can be thought of as my own fingerprint, where my identity arises from different layers and folds and through different textures. This collection is a result of an elaborated creative process which begun with the universal question: “Who am I?” and has taken me to this final stage where memories of events, traditional garments, horses, and their Andalusian traditional apparels have mingled with the emotions that I have experienced, to create a sartorial and very personal representation of a world that is purely mine yet an echo of Andalusia.
