About

Erin Brazowski, Trainee hair and makeup artist for film & TV, London basedWith a passion for film and television makeup, I am a diligent and hard working individual, conducting myself with upmost professionalism. My lifelong drive to work within the industry, amongst like-minded creatives catalysed my pursuit of a BA (hons) degree in ‘Hair and makeup for film and performance’, through which I have expanded my skill set, product knowledge and confidence in my craft. I have editorial, SFX, prosthetic and period knowledge and I am excited to start working within the industry and the prospect of continuously learning from my peers. With previous on-set experience in both the makeup department and props, I am confident in my knowledge of production running and set etiquette.

an editorial exploration of 'heavy metal posioning', both historically and within modern day

The displayed artistry is a symbolic representation of the external symptoms and consequential poisoning, due to prolonged exposure to metal toxicity. My designs depict the continuation of handling and transporting of materials, throughout cultures and the course of time despite workers enduring adverse effects both internally and externally. In both cases, toxin inhalation and absorption is hazardous. Conducted through physical contact, vapour inhalation and nail-bed absorption. Symptomatically, causing skin ulcerations, discolouration, and internal suffering. Entitled ‘Mad as a hatter’, reflecting the colloquial terminology of the disease. My 19th century inspired look is editorially representative of late-Victorian milliners. Subsequently, traces of neurotoxin ‘mercury nitrate’ within ‘felting’ a process used to construct headwear. Subsequently, instigating neurological disorder, ‘erethism’. Physically, hatters endured skin ‘carotin’ reflected through yellow pigment within the design. Alongside pupil dilation and lip discolouration resultant of direct contact. Costuming, hairstyling, and product placement ties in late 19th century elements. Arsenic poisoning is contracted through coal transportation, a common practice in Asia. Ultimately resulting in sores and pigmentation on hands and feet due to arsenic residing in the coal, soil and contaminated water. Through this design, colour symbolism is prevalent, using earthy tones through costuming to convey an outside working environment in conjunction with silver elements, representative of the arsenic excreted. Each element was constructed in an environmentally conscious manor, using recycled materials and pre-loved clothing. Encompassing a range of techniques, my designs incorporate aspects of artistic licence. Fabricated through special effects, editorial and period-based makeup. Interconnected through the construction of headpieces, created using recycled materials, and the medium of ‘braiding’ hair illustrating the causations of the contracted poisonings in an imaginative manor.
