Saqib is a Pakistani fine artist based in New York, with an educational background in Fine Art from the University of Edinburgh and Iceland School of the Arts. She is currently advancing her studies at Columbia University.
Her artistic practice delves into the synergy between self-exploration and the creative process, weaving together her Eastern roots, Sufi psychology, and experience as a yoga teacher. Her work is a reflection of her engagement with themes of meditation, slowness, introspection, and somatics. These are expressed through meditative installations, intricate embroidery, and large-scale miniature drawings.
Using miniature drawings and embroidery as a gateway to meditation and heightened awareness, I create pieces by repeating specific words in my mother tongue, Urdu. These artworks invite pause, offering a visual rhythm that harmonises with the viewer’s tempo of stillness and motion. Importantly, each word serves as a reflection of my personal struggles and the ongoing journey of healing and reconnecting with my body. This laborious process, demanding hours of devoted repetition, challenges the subtleties of attaining internal stillness.
