About
Hi! We are Mai, Sara and Kaori from Bunka Fashion College.
We are glad to have the opportunity to present our work.
Our theme is Light and Shadow.
Light and Shadow is a collaboration between Mai Asaba, Sara Terabe and Kaori Tebakari. Through the theme of environmental issues we wanted to focus on negative and positive images in our design. The negative, we imagined a planet weakened by the air pollution and drought with a sense of hopelessness with no future. We utilized leftover yarn and selvages to create tattered and damaged look. By knitting a fabric similar to tulle by using leftover yarn from a polyester and nylon metallic thread company. For the positive, there are three-dimensional and modern buildings, future, happiness and activity. We used bright colours and bouncy materials to express a positive image. Utilizing transparent and thermoplastic threads for shape retention, creating a gravity-defying appearance with inserted tucks for frills. Through this collaboration we experienced group work along with interacting with students from overseas in real time. We were able to gain new inspiration and techniques for our designs.
