Jenny is an illustrative printed textile designer who produces designs for interior surfaces. She thoroughly enjoys the process of creating designs which retain a hand rendered aesthetic, paying particular attention to detail.
Key features of practice include a strong traditional handwriting style which gives her work depth, demonstrated through intricate pen illustrations that mimic eighteenth century copper plate engravings and a highly detailed painting style, inspired by traditional chinoiserie paintings.
As a designer her influences derive from historical themes, with a love for architecture and appreciation for hand crafted designs. Her strong approach to research, often begins with visits to historic locations and landmarks with a rich history to further influence design direction. This allows Jenny to create engaging concepts and narratives which pay homage to the past, a key theme throughout her work.
Fundamental to her design process is observational drawing, developing work by hand before applying colour digitally or hand painting with gouache. Proficient in computer aided design, Jenny combines a skilled hand with digital programmes such as Adobe Photoshop to develop hand rendered compositions into technical repeats, blending together traditional and contemporary processes.
Explore the enchanting world of Beatrice Rothschild and the grand salons of her pink palace of paradise, in this collection of wallpaper and home furnishing prints for high end interiors. In a period of optimism and discovery during the late eighteenth century, the baroness constructed the charming Villa Ephrussi De Rothschild as her own personal retreat. A luxurious collection designed to create a personal retreat of your own, Joie de vivre or the joy of living celebrates the forgotten story of Beatrice Rothschild and her love for nature and the arts, to create a life full of decadence and joy. An eclectic mix of prints reflects the juxtaposition of eras found within the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, blending historical and contemporary approaches to create designs suitable for modern interiors. Wander the dream gardens that surround the idyllic location and become lost in the French garden, where luxurious shades of green are paired with the uplifting pinks of eccentric roses. A ballad of blue tones dance together to the sound of Chopins nocturne whilst the mischievous monkey orchestra conducts. Each motif is carefully hand rendered to illustrate this fascinating story, paying homage to the past. Toile de Jouy patterns which adorn the villa walls, are reimagined and the hand painted chinoiserie silks echo the elegance of each of the rooms inside.
The Flore des serres collection celebrates the history of the victorian palm houses through a range of hand rendered prints, which each take inspiration from the wonderful treasures found inside. From spiral staircases to exotic flora and fauna; designs are injected with a vibrant colour palette to create a powerful combination of patterns that will transform any room. The collection is offered across a selection of luxurious fabrics and larger than life wallpapers which will allow the consumer to create an immersive setting, or simply make a bold statement. Tailored to the luxury market, sitting alongside brands such as House of Hackney and Timorous beasties, those seeking to inject a dose of maximalism into the home are able to choose from two colour ways, allowing for a personalised selection and endless combinations.
The fluid movement of iridescent jellyfish and winding tentacles of giant octopus are illustrated through expressive ink drawings, to create a collection of prints inspired by the surreal life forms beneath the surface. Large scale motifs are layered and intertwined to produce bold designs and placement prints for sophisticated garments. Deep ocean hues and bursts of apricot are combined to create the colour story for a sea inspired SS ‘24 womenswear collection. (outcome for a patternbank live brief // 2023)
