About

MY PRACTICE article explores the concept of cultural memory and identity in the Basotho initiation ceremonies. It discusses the importance of mothers in the upbringing of boys like myself, who over time become men in a society that has endured ignificant historical injusticES These injustices still affect many Basotho families in the present day in South Africa. Some of these injustices included – but are not limited to – men having to leave their homes in rural areas to find work in urban areas, often away from their families, so that they may be able to provide for their them financially. The absence of fathers, due to many factors, including death, led to women raising their children without the help of male or father figures

MOHLANG BAKGUTLANG

MOHLANG BAKGUTLANG, MEANS THE DAY WHEN THE INITIATES RETURN FROM THE MOUNTAINS AND EVERYONE IS WAITING TO SEE THEIR RETURN.
