About:

Alessia Prati is an emerging Italian artist in the field of contemporary jewelry, born in 1992 she lives and works between Piacenza and Florence. Alessia boasts a background made up of multiple experiences that led her to live in different creative environments from a very young age. In 2014 she graduated from Politecnico in Milan, and began working asafashion designer, and later in advertising agencies. After these experiences that laid the foundations of her creative training, in 2016 she enrolled at the Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School in Florence on their BFA course. She is choose for several international exhibitions, where her work receives consensus and interest, culminating in her selection as "international designer in residence" at the Loupe gallery in Hong Kong, a project founded by Asian high jewelry magnate Chow Tai Fook. On her return from Asia, she receives a scholarship from the same Alchimia school to enroll in the Master of Fine Arts in Contemporary Jewelry and Body Ornaments. Alessia's work has, from the outset, been strongly motivated by a desire to break out of the classical moulds of jewelry, to encounter a performative and mutable dimension, inviting one to interact with the pieces as if they were alive. Furthermore, her participation in the LGBTIQ+ community and her activist spirit often lead her to refer to social and political issues, such as the struggle for self-affirmation and the acceptance of one's uniqueness within modern society.

Sýn. investigates the self opposed to the sin of being one's authentic "I" in society: the blossoming of what usually hides inside. This transformative movement affects firstly the artist in the act of creating: a time consuming, meditative process of repeatedly forging and linking together tiny elements, to generate a whole. Through senses and perceptions the wearer experiences surprising contrasts between form and substance, imperceptible but "visible" sounds, unconscious associations. Evoking animals, plants and imaginary hybrid-shapes, the objects can be defined as "friends" for us to carry: a source of strength and pride when necessary, in other cases shields or armor for protection. Small companions that everyone can choose to adopt to be less alone in the process. Presented to the outside world as alternative to conformity, a form of Active Resistance. “Sýn” derives from a Greek prefix for words indicating union, complexity and simultaneity.
