Born in 1998, Robyn is a Cape Town-based artist capturing the narratives around her through the medium of digital photography and video work. Her subject matter focuses on loss, memory, and South Africa’s history. In her final year she engages with the deeper histories of swimming and drowning in South Africa. Where she shares her family's narratives of their experiences with the coastal spaces that they used for recreation during Apartheid. She has completed her BA Degree in Fine Art at the Michaelis School of Fine Art (UCT).
Mirage is about navigating the deeper histories of a generational trauma of swimming and (drowning) in the Cape. The project consists of a photographic series of abstract photography of surreal waterscapes, a short video piece and zines that share the stories of my immediate families' experiences with swimming during apartheid along the false bay coast in Cape Town, South Africa.
