Meisen Jamir is a multidisciplinary textile designer based in London, currently studying for an MA in Textiles at the Royal College of Art. Originally from Nagaland in Northeast India, she holds a BA in Textile Design from the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad. Her practice is grounded in surface design and mixed media, shaped by a strong connection to making, material exploration, and cultural research.Meisen’s work is informed by traditional practices, everyday observations, and an interest in how objects and materials carry stories across time. With a hands-on approach, she often works with techniques such as crochet, stitching, and printing, using them not only as aesthetic tools but as methods of reflection and storytelling.
The Masters collection, "The Beetles," draws on my childhood fascination with beetles and reimagines them through the visual language of Indian chintz. The project explores beetles as symbols of resilience, adaptation, and overlooked beauty. Through playful reinterpretation, it positions textiles as a dialogue between tradition and innovation, encouraging viewers to look closer at hidden details. The collection combines traditional and digital techniques, producing two types of samples: tactile surfaces created with unconventional materials using traditional methods, and contemporary surface designs inspired by heritage crafts. Together, these pieces reflect a balance of memory, materiality, and creative experimentation.
