About

Julia Judenhahn’s passions in design lie in exploring new forms and processing techniques, as well as developing new materials. Her goal is to transform fashion in a more sustainable way and to give natural and waste materials a new sense of modernity. Returning to traditional craftsmanship, she carries out every step of the production process herself – from the fiber to the finished garment. She draws inspiration from artists of minimalism and abstraction and aims to convey naturalness, purism, and simplicity.

Puregrid is researching material innovations made of wool and developing a bachelor‘s fashion collection. The aim of the work is to make the natural material wool attractive again, so that people have the opportunity to dress in a modern and sustainable way. From the fibre to the finished garment, I carried out all the production steps independently. Spinning, weaving and sewing became one production step. The felting. Inspired by the artists Agnes Martin and Anni Albers, it analyses the connection between purity, aesthetics and grid structures. It shows how grids can be used as an order system in visual design and fashion to evoke emotions such as calmness, freedom, and purity and also to create zero waste patterns.
