I refined in my final year by developing a product that addresses a significant real-world issue:
prostate health. This project showcased both my technical expertise and creative thinking.
PRO check is a low-cost, data-driven prostate health monitoring device designed to improve early detection of prostate conditions. It uses an inflatable condom over a probe to apply gentle pressure to the prostate, while a laser diffraction grid and angled cameras map its surface and measure tissue compressibility. This generates 3D visualisations and pressure-deformation graphs, allowing for accurate PSA density calculation and tracking changes over time. Unlike current methods like Digital Rectal Examinations or MRIs, PRO check offers a consistent, objective, and affordable alternative, ideal for routine use in GP practices to support early diagnosis and improve patient confidence.
