About
I am a textile designer driven by function, exploring and challenging unconventional materials to redefine woven textiles.
Wireland is a material-led research project that reimagines the potential of metal wire in woven textiles. Developed in collaboration with a wire company, the project utilizes discarded insulated wire waste as its primary material. This partnership enabled access to an unconventional resource while grounding the work in principles of circular design and sustainability. By transforming industrial waste into interior textile objects, Wireland demonstrates how materials usually destined for disposal can become the starting point for both craft and innovation. Craftsmanship plays a crucial role, with traditional handweaving techniques adapted to explore new possibilities of form, structure, and transparency. The outcome is a collection of six interior textile objects, woven in three material groups: soft stainless steel, stainless steel mixed with insulated wire, and rigid insulated wire compositions. Together, they show a variety of applications of wire in woven textiles. A central focus lies on the conductive properties of wire, which inspired the development of a series of lamps within the project. By highlighting its original function of transferring electricity, normally hidden behind walls, Wireland places the wire at the forefront, giving it new relevance in the context of woven interior objects. The material’s natural behavior introduces playfulness into the process, shaping the visual outcome and offering a completely new perspective on how electrical wire can be perceived.
